“Spike” Lloyd Cook, age 83 of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018, at St. Anthony Regional Medical Center in Carroll, IA. Spike was born on July 21, 1935, in Wall Lake, IA, to parents Lawrence and Nellie (Piper) Cook. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Spike lived south of Wall Lake and attended Wall Lake Country School and graduated high school in Bolivar, MO.
Spike enlisted into the United States Army on January 26, 1954, and served two years during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on January 25, 1956. After returning from the war, Spike was united in marriage to JoAnn Slechta at the Vail Catholic Church on November 24, 1956. This union was blessed with six children: Mike, Terry, Rick, Kathy, Cindy and Nancy. They later divorced and on September 9, 1991, Spike married Linda Carroll in Las Vegas, NV.
Spike worked for Nobles Manufacturing and Midwest Valley Chemical up until his retirement in 1997. In his free time, he loved to hunt and fish. He will be remembered for his love of catching turtles and having turtle fries. Spike was also a fishing guide for many years, following the fishing seasons in Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri. He enjoyed spending time with his family and teaching his grandchildren the art of fishing and loving the outdoors. Spike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife Linda Cook of Wall Lake, IA; children: Mike (Kathy) Cook of Carroll, IA, Terry (Sally) Cook of Sac City, IA, Rick (Wen) Cook of South Korea, Kathy (Mark) Dettman of Arnolds Park, IA, Cindy Rahn (special friend Steve) of Carroll, IA, and Nancy (John) Carnes of Mena, AR; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; many extended family members and friends.
Spike was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Mary Sue.
