Delores Louise Ellis, age 83, of Lytton, IA, passed away at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA, on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. Delores was born in her parent’s home in Storm Lake on June 18, 1935, to Louis and Luella (Lange) Straus. She was baptized and later confirmed her faith at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. They lived in the Lake View area where she attended school, graduating in 1953 from Lake View High School. For a short time following graduation Delores worked at the hospital in Fort Dodge.
On September 23, 1956, Delores was united in marriage to Don Ellis at Peace Lutheran Church. During their life, they lived and farmed outside of Lytton. Delores was a true farmer’s wife and partner in all aspects of farm life; caring for her family, helping her neighbors, and providing meals for those in need. Delores was a devoted wife and mother, attending her children’s activities when they were young and treasured spending time with her grandchildren and her many “adopted” grandchildren. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed her visits to her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted Cyclone fan and was found at the Cyclone football games on a regular basis. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City, serving on Ladies Aid, Stewardship Committee, Mid-Week teacher, and will be remembered as the “chief bun-cutter at funeral luncheons”. Delores was also active with the Sac County Cattlemen’s Association, Lytton Library Board and Legion Auxiliary, and a member of TOP’s, and the “After Five” group. She will be dearly missed by many who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children: Margo Ellis of Tarkio, MO; Beth Mohar and husband Michael of Racine, WI; and Michael Ellis of Cypress, TX; grandchildren: Megan Mohar of Charles City, IA, and Madison Mohar of Racine, WI. Other survivors include her sisters-in-law: Wilma Straus of Early, IA, Evonne Mowrey of New Prague, MN, Carol DeLoach of Sac City, and LaRue Schade of Sac City; her many nieces, nephews, “adopted” grandchildren, and a host of friends.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents; husband Don; and brother Duane Straus.
The family would like to give a big Thank You to Dr. Pek and Unity Point Hospice Team for their loving care of Mom.
