Surrounded by his family at St. Anthony’s Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, Dennis Lee Bromley entered eternal life on the afternoon of April 6, 2014. Denny passed away from complications of COPD and Emphysema. He was 74 years old. Denny was born at home in Lake View, Iowa on July 8, 1939 to loving parents, Verla Eaton Bromley and John Sherman “Doc” Bromley. He was the second son in a family of five children. Denny attended school in Lake View, Iowa from elementary school through high school and the friendships he made there lasted throughout his lifetime. He was quarterback and captain of the football team as well as a basketball player.

It was during this time in school that Denny met and fell in love with his high school sweetheart, Gloria Seymour and they married June 9, 1962. Denny and Gloria were blessed with two daughters. Natalie was born April 11, 1965 and Sonya arrived on March 11, 1969. Denny was a most loving and attentive father and husband and cherished his family above all else. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and loved them beyond measure. Both his children and grandchildren have fond memories sitting beside him as he drove one of his beautiful old cars around the lake.

The work ethic Dennis embodied carried him from paperboy as a child to owning a barbershop in Lake View. He was also part owner of Bromley’s Foodland with his brother, Kenny, during this time. He eventually sold his barbershop and Bromley’s Foodland and started working full time for the state of Iowa; first in the Iowa Liquor Store and then for the Iowa Lottery. He worked for the state of Iowa for over thirty years and retired in July of 2006. The co-workers he had throughout his careers and the people he met along his lottery route became dear friends and he enjoyed his jobs immensely.

Denny loved cars almost as much as he loved his family and spent countless years restoring classic cars and street rods. He learned how to sew upholstery fabric from his father-in-law, Wes Seymour, and Denny turned part of his garage into a shop where he could reupholster the seats for the cars he restored. He also refurbished many pedal cars back to their former glory. As an avid car enthusiast, Denny participated in several car show events with whatever car he owned at the time and won many awards. He enjoyed being a member of the Iowa Street Rod Association and one of his favorite events of the year was the Goodguys Heartland Nationals in Des Moines in which he and his family attended for over twenty years. His car buddies enriched his life. He served in the Army and the Army Reserves and was a member of Lakes United Methodist Church. Dennis was a friend to all and will be missed greatly. His sense of humor and his generous, humble nature were appreciated by all who knew and loved him.
