Joan Bloyer, age 94, of Arthur, IA, formerly of Schaller, IA, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab. Joan Yvonne Sippel was born on June 10, 1923, to Carl and Helen (Gard) Sippel on her parents farm near Schaller, IA. She was baptized as an infant at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early where she was later confirmed. She attended the Catholic Church all her life.
Joan attended school through 7th grade at Eden Township #8 Country School, starting when she was only four years of age. She attended 8th through 12th grade at Sacred Heart Catholic School. After graduating from Sacred Heart she attended Early Public School and graduated again a year later. Joan completed her education at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines graduating in 1943.
On September 4, 1943, Joan was united in marriage to the love of her life, Everett Dwain Bloyer, in the Silver Chapel at Fort McClellan, Anniston, Alabama. This union was blessed with six children: Sharon, Dwain, Nancy, Richard “Dick”, William “Bill” and Lorrie. They made their home in Schaller. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, who cherished her family and adored her grandchildren.
She served as a secretary at the Buena Vista Farm Bureau office for two years in Storm Lake, for two years at the Anniston Ordnance Depot in Anniston, AL, and nineteen years for the Schaller Community School system retiring on June 30, 1986.
Everett and Joan moved from Schaller to Arthur, IA in August 1997. They spent their winters in Apache Junction, Arizona, returning to their home in Arthur by Easter each year. They made many friends in their travels and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her children: Sharon (Dennis) Johnson of Anthon, IA, Dwain (Sharon) Bloyer of Ft. Collins, CO, Nancy Johnston of Jeannette, PA, Dick (Kay) Bloyer of Odebolt, and Lorrie Stagner (Brian Harris) of Benson, NC; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. Other survivors include her brother Joseph Sippel of Johnston, IA; many nieces; nephews; and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Everett on November 25, 2003; son Bill Bloyer; sister Marie Faber; brothers William and Edwin Sippel; and daughters-in-law Cathy Bloyer and Sue Bloyer.
