Betty Lou Olson Spicer, age 91, of Sac City, IA, formerly of Lytton, IA, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Unity Point Health Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA.

Betty was born on August 10, 1925, to Clifford and Ethel (Austin) Stout in Sac City.  She was baptized in 1935 at the First Baptist Church in Sac City and transferred her membership to the First Christian Church in Sac City in 1941 where she remained a life-time member.  She graduated from Sac City High School with the class of 1944.

On May 23, 1945, Betty was united in marriage to Duane V. Olson at the First Christian Church.  This union was blessed with five children: Connie, Dennis, Kathy, Karen, and Kristi.  They made their home in Lytton.  Betty was a busy mom, providing a loving and comfortable home for her family, attending their school activities and was also very involved with church activities. She worked as a receptionist at Farm Bureau Life Insurance for many years and church secretary for 10 years, retiring in 1988.  Duane passed away January 6, 2012.

Betty married Keith Spicer on December 24, 2012, at the First Christian Church.  Betty enjoyed knitting, crocheting, building doll houses with plastic canvas, and reading.

As a member of the First Christian Church she served as an Elder, Sunday school teacher, Choir Director for 10 years, and choir member.  She loved God, family and her church family.  She enjoyed Bible studies and visiting with residents at nursing homes.  Her beautiful voice was a blessing and Betty will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. I remember Betty's contagious smile and laugh. She was so encouraging to me as I grew up in the church. Just a month or so ago when I was home and got to say hello to her at church and see her smile it lit up my day. Her faith was something that I always admired. May God continue to shine on you and comfort you through this time.”
