Darlene Sarah Quistorff, age 88, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA. Darlene was born on August 4, 1927, at home on the Hutchinson family farm near Jolley, IA, to Frank Steven and Ethel Eva (England) Hutchinson. She grew up on the farm and attended the Calhoun County rural schools, graduating from country school May 21, 1940 and graduated from Lytton Consolidated High School in 1944. She took nurses aide training classes and received her certification.
On February 10, 1948, Darlene was united in marriage to Donald Francis Quistorff in Sac City. This union was blessed with five children: Jean, Lorraine, Rosemary, Ronald and Michael. Darlene was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake.
Darlene worked at Twilight Acres Nursing Home from 1959-1969 and 30 years as a teller at Farmers State Bank in Lake View. She loved gardening, baking, sewing, making quilts and hosting family holidays. She attended many sporting events to watch her grandchildren, traveling some distance to see their activities. Darlene made coutless batches of her famous sugar cookies for family. Gardening was her favorite hobby and roses her favorite flowers. She enjoyed traveling to Arizona with her sister and husband to visit family and brothers. She was an amazing and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children: Jean Johnson of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Lorraine Hahn and husband Terry of Cedar Falls, IA, Rosemary Allen and husband John of Polk City, IA, Ronald Quistorff and Doris Monson of Lake View, and Michael Quistorff and wife Theresa of Waterloo, IA; 15 grandchildren: Holly (Voss) Hoppe of Arkansas, Jennifer Voss of Omaha, Kristina Voss of Omaha, Chloe Allen of Ankeny, Heidi Johnson, Rees McWright, Gunner Johnson, Megan Finnell all of Ruidoso, NM, Don Quistorff, Nicole Steils of Cedar Falls, Ben and Kacie Monson of Troy, IL, Jenny Esslinger of Coon Rapids, Bret and Sarah Hanks of Cedar Falls; 13 great-grandchildren: Tanner, Danielle, Brayden, Gabrielle, Jordyn, Max, Abbie, Julia, Bryce, Olivia, Kynlee, Soren, and Noah; her sister Doris Mayo and husband Sharon of Sac City; brother Verl Hutchinson and wife Rachael of Sac City; sister-in-law Lorine (Hutchinson) Schade and husband Harlan of Sac City; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband Donald; parents Ethel and Frank Hutchinson; sister Evelyn Gesy; brothers Dale and Paul Hutchinson; sister-in-law Ardith Hutchinson; son-in-law Ric Johnson; and various nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake, IA with Father John McGuirk officiating. Burial will be in the Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation will begin an hour prior to the service at the church.
