Gordon Richard (Dick) Reiter from Wall Lake, IA was born on October 19, 1926, in Red Hill, Penn. He was born to Norman W. and Margaret (Aden) Reiter. He was baptized in Pennsylvania and confirmed at Wheatland Presbyterian Church near Breda. IA. Dick attended country school near Herring through the 8th grade and graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1944. Following graduation he received certification as a Dairy Herd Improvement Association supervisor in Butler county IA.
On June 26, 1948, Dick was united in marriage to Joann Lois Henrichs in Allison, IA. They lived in Allison until 1952 when they moved to a farm south of Herring where Dick farmed. In the fall of 1960 the family moved into Wall Lake. In May of 2011 Dick moved into Twilight Acres in Wall Lake after a fall in the home and resided there till his death.
Dick was employed at Albrecht Oil & Feed Co. from 1961-2000 and was part owner in the company for 20 years. He sold his interest in 1993 but continued working there as long as he was able.
Dick was a member of Lakes United Methodist Church and in the men’s fellowship group serving on the church board. Eventually he returned to his home church, Wheatland Presbyterian where he was in the fellowship. He enjoyed many hours in the church having coffee and conversation after mowing the grounds. He was on the Wall Lake Community Fire Dept. for over 30 years serving as chief for 24 of those years. He served on the Wall Lake City Council from 1971-2000. Dick and Joann were Charter members of the Wall Lake Lions since 1988. Both were club presidents for a year. Dick was a 9X1 Zone Chairman for 6 years then was elected 9X1 District Governor for the 2001-2002 term.
Hobbies include collecting miniature farm tractors and farm memorabilia and pictures, reading especially his beloved magazines, traveling and spending time with the children and grandchildren.
On November 11, 2015, Dick passed away at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, IA at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife Joann residing at Twilight Acres; two sons, Mark and his wife Deb of Monticello, MN, and Joel of Des Moines; his daughter, Jayne and her husband, Gaylen Jepsen of Denison; and son-in-law, Mark Wilson of Lake View. Survivors also include three grandsons, James Wilson and special friend Ashley Tiller of Denver, CO, Jeremy Jepsen and Kyle Jepsen of Denison, IA; two granddaughters, Angela and her husband Chad Satre of Maple Grove, MN and Jessica Wilson of Lake View, IA; three great-grandchildren Sam and Sophie Satre and Brycelyn Paquette; brother, Robert Reiter and his wife Becky of Bettendorf, IA; sister-in-law Joanie Reiter of Wall Lake, IA; and many extended family members.
Dick was preceded in death by his daughter Karen Wilson, in 1993, his parents, a brother Ed Reiter, and sister at birth.
