  David Mott age 54 of Odebolt, IA, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at CHI Health Immanuel ICU in Omaha, NE.   David Eric Mott was born on October 24, 1967, to parents George (Ed) and Elaine (Heckert) Mott.  He grew up in Wall Lake, IA, where he attended grade school and graduated from Wall Lake High School with the class of 1986.  After graduation, David continued his education at WITCC and received his Rental Technology degree. 

  On September 16, 1989, David was united in marriage to Janet Dunkin in Lake View, IA.  They first made their home in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1987and then moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 1991.  While in Wisconsin, David was employed by Action Rental, and later managed Fans & Monograms and Racing Fans retail store in Madison.  He was employed by Viking Hardware in Mt. Horeb, and later helped with the building of a new hardware store in New Glarus, which he managed for several years.  In 2017, David and Janet moved back home to Iowa to be near family.  He was employed by Storm Lake Ace Hardware, and most recently was selling auto parts at Ida Grove Napa.  

Although he lived in Wisconsin, David was a lifelong Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeye fan.   He was also an avid fan of NASCAR, drag racing, and dirt track racing.  For many years, he loved helping the DeSelle Racing team race midgets on the dirt every Sunday night in the Summer, at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie.  

  In his free time, David collected diecast race cars and tractors.  His passion was doing woodworking and loved making special pieces for family members.  Most of all, he loved his time spent with his wife, dog, family, and friends.  

  Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Janet Mott and beloved dog Harley of Odebolt, IA; mother Elaine Mott of Wall Lake, IA; in-laws Don and Lois Dunkin of Odebolt, IA; brother Doug Mott of Wall Lake, IA; sister Janene (Matt) Raasch of Odebolt, IA; sisters-in-law: Joan (Dale) Olerich of Kiron, IA, and Carol (James) Larson of Sherman, TX; nieces and nephews: Kristina Rake (Cody Granahan) of Humboldt, IA, Amber Rake (Danny Sorensenof Odebolt, IADrayton & Jaxon RaaschMacKenzie & Rylin Mott, Becky (Nick) Robertson of Moscow Mills, MO, Rodney (Sara) Olerich of Odebolt, IA, Brandy (Brendon) Jonsson of Lumberton, NC, Kyle (Katie) Larson of Sherman, TX, and extended family members and many friends.

  David was preceded in death by his father George (Ed) and dog King. 

 

  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 3, 2022, at the Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View, IA, with Pastor Betty Kiboko officiating.  Visitation will be Sunday, January 2 from 2 to 5 pm at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake. Burial will take place at the Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.  Visitation will be Sunday, January 2, 2022, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake, IA. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in David’s name to any animal rescue shelter, the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center, or charity of your choice.
