Betty Cheney, age 92 of Sac City, IA, passed away surrounded by her family, on Monday, November 8, 2021, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.  On May 22, 1929, Betty Lorraine was born to parents Herbert and Ida (Schade) Weitzel in Sac County, IA.  She attended Jackson 12 country school and graduated from Sac City High School with the class of 1947.

In 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Glenn Dierenfeld and together they had four children. They later divorced.   Betty worked in the foodservice industry, working at Indian Village, the Carlson House, and Rusty’s Deli.  She was an excellent cook and loved to make salads for family events. Potato salad and cinnamon rolls were her most requested! Betty was active in her community and was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the First Presbyterian Church.

On July 31, 1981, Betty was united in marriage to Wallace Cheney in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.  After the passing of Wally, Betty spent the winters in Hawaii for several years.  She also went fishing in Minnesota with her brother in the summer months, and took a yearly trip to Branson, MO to see the country shows with her daughter.  There was always an adventure around the corner for her.  Later in life, Betty became interested in computer games, ferbes, reading, and her talking dog Buster.  She also collected many Precious Moments.  Betty will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Patty Mangum of Carroll, IA, Martin Dierenfeld of Sac City, IA, and Bruce Dierenfeld of Clayton, GA; two grandchildren; brothers: Merlin (Sophia) Weitzel of Eden Prairie, MN, and Raymond (Beth) Weitzel of Ames, IA; and many friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her son Craig, husband Wallace Cheney, and son-in-law Jim Mangum.
