William A. Jarvis
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, September 11, 2008, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City. Visitation is from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. Bill passed away on Monday, September 8th at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Bill was born on a farm east of Sac City, May 16, 1929, the son of William A. and Nellie R. (Mastellar) Jarvis. He was baptized, confirmed, and lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City. He attended country school in rural Sac County. On August 6, 1950, Bill was united in marriage to Dorothy Irene Wulf. They made their home in Sac City where Bill worked for the Sac County Maintenance Department for 36 years, retiring May 9, 1991. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing cards, watching westerns on television, and the challenge of a good puzzle book. Bill especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They held a very special place in his heart. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Dorothy; five daughters: Bonnie (Arnie) Ripley, Jr. of Sac City, Marilyn (Kevin) Mack of St. Louis, MO, Susan (Paul) Strong of Sac City, Barbara Determann of Forest City, IA, and Mary (Kevin) Ganseveld of Garner, IA; fourteen grandchildren: John and Amy Thometz; Joshua, Andrew and Angela Mack; Jeff, Justin and Kayla Strong; Mathew, Sara, Nicolas and Tyler Determann; and Larissa and Zachary Ganseveld; and eleven great-grandchildren: Tyler, Katie, Abby, Kaitlyn, Bo, Jared, Ryan, Kevin, Averie, Keagan, and Peyton. Other survivors include his sisters: Flossie Wulkow of Wall Lake, Mary Heyl of Des Moines, and Velma McCullough of Storm Lake; his brothers: Verlyn (Sandy) Jarvis of Sac City and Vernon Jarvis of Rockwell City; many nieces and nephews and extended family members. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughters: Phyllis and Lois; brothers Richard and Bernard; sisters Hazel Patterson, Elizabeth Cretsinger, and Thelma Lietz; and infant grandson Christhopher Thometz. |
