Paul L. Peyton

Paul L. Peyton, age 85, of Sac City, died December 28, 2008, at Park View Care Center in Sac City, IA. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 30th, 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City. Visitation will be Monday, December 29, from 5-8 p.m. at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. Burial will follow the service, at Oakland Cemetery in Sac City. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Paul Leroy Peyton was born May 22, 1923, to Louis A. and Effie (Rhoads) Peyton. He grew up in Sac City, graduating from Sac City High School in 1941. After high school he joined the Navy and was sent to San Diego, CA. It was there that he married Mildred Irene Willert on September 10, 1941.

After his medical discharge from the Navy, he worked at Consolidated Aircraft in Southern California. He returned to Sac City, in 1945, and went to work with his father and brother at their Home Oil gas station in Sac City. He went on to purchase the entity and operated it for over 50 years until his retirement in 2002.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City. He was active in the LLL and Dart Ball League. Paul collected matchbox covers, coins, and ink pens. He had a gift for woodworking and enjoyed constructing picture frames, many of which were sold through Farber and Otteman Furniture Store. Paul’s greatest love was his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Larry (Vicki) Peyton, of Sac City; Charles (Donna) Peyton, of Rockwell City, IA; grandchildren: Jodi (Steve) Miller, Traci (Jim) Miller, Jay (Renae) Peyton, Karen Peyton, Kelli Peyton, Chris Peyton; three step-grandchildren: Chad (Jennifer) Coon, Rebecca (Dan) Slater, and Tyler Coon; nine great-grandchildren: Tony, Andy, and Alex Quail, Peyton Miller, Cameron, Courtney and Carver Miller, and Eli and Riley Peyton; eight step great-grandchildren: Caitlyn Megan, Lauren, Thomas, and Nicholas Coon, Connor, Michael, and Carter Slater; two great-great granddaughters: Marissa and Hayleigh Quail; brother-in-law: Everett Delp of Storm Lake; sister-in-law Anne Willert of Sac City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Effie; wife: Mildred; brother: Louis N. Peyton; sisters: Cecil Smith; Catherine Delp; Dora Mae McDonald; Evelyn Monkelien; Ivola Nagel; Donna Wickersheim; and daughter-in-law: Donna L. Peyton.
