Pauline M. Burtcheard

Pauline Marjorie Burtcheard, age 91, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Pauline was born on August 31, 1916, in Sac City, the daughter of Jessie and Nettie (Richter) Low. She attended the Sac City Public School until she lost her eyesight in an accident around age eight. She continued her education and graduated from Vinton School for the Blind. She had to watch her class graduate from the window, as she had the mumps.

On July 9, 1951, Pauline was united in marriage to Francis Marion Burtcheard, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He passed away on June 20, 1974. Fishing was an important hobby to both of them. She also enjoyed crocheting and growing pretty flowers. She held office as Secretary for the Women’s Relief Corp. and took the minutes on her Braille machine. She also held the office of President for the same. She was a volunteer for many organizations. Though she had no children of her own, Pauline was always babysitting, cooking and cleaning. She spent the majority of her 91 years making children happy. She has been a “mom”, “grandmother”, “great-grandmother”, and soon to be “great-great grandmother” to many children who love and cherish her memory.

Survivors include her brother, William Low from Waterloo, Iowa, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Nadine.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 12th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City with burial at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 on Friday at the funeral home.
