Maxine Mandernach, age 87, of Sac City, passed away on July 23, 2008, in Sac City. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City is in charge of the arrangements.

Services will be held Monday, July 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Sac City, Pastor Matt Milligan officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-4:30 p.m. at the Farber and Otteman funeral home in Sac City.

Maxine was born December 22, 1920 in Sac County, Iowa, to Edgar and Theodosia Downs. She graduated from Sac City high school in 1938 and attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines.

After working at the Des Moines Ordinance Plant she moved to Pasadena, California where she worked at California Institute of Technology and later at ASF Pasadena Regional Hospital.

In January 1946 she was married to Preston Page Rector upon his return from military service. They were parents of Steven Page and Janice Lynn. Page passed away in 1956 and Maxine and children returned to Sac City to make their home. She worked at Iowa Public Service for 21 years. In 1965 she was married to Robert Mandernach.

Maxine enjoyed crafts, painting, doing needlework, knitting and sewing. She was an avid reader. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City. She was a past deacon and served as secretary/treasurer for the afternoon circle of Presbyterian Women. Maxine cared deeply for her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Steven (Rose) Rector of Lenexa, KS, and their children: Laura Wildman (Matt) and son Caden, Stephanie Rector, and Adam Rector; Daughter Janice King and her daughter Lisa King of Wichita, KS. Step-children: Craig (Jan) Mandernach of Decatur, IL, and their children: Megan (Arnie) Shober and children Clara and Gretchen, Meris Mandernach, and Brandon Mandernach; Jan (Dennis) Reaman of New Hampton, IA, and children Darren Reaman, LeAnn (Tony) Ede, and Lanette (Timm) Pint; Arlys (Scott) Staub of Woodbury, IN, children Michael (Clare), Aaron (Kelli) and daughter Meredith, and Jeremy Staub; Brother: Ardell (Eunice) Downs of Holstein; and many nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Theodosia Downs; her husbands: Page Rector and Robert Mandernach; and sister Louise Olsen.
