Mary Isabel (Vernon) Jacobsen, 83, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, July 7th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City with Father Larry McCarty officiating. Burial will be at Ferguson Cemetery in Lake View under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the funeral home is Sac City. There will be a Rosary at 5:00 and prayer vigil at 7:00.

Mary was born in Denison, Iowa, on April 15, 1925, the daughter of Edward T. and Marie Honour (Connor) Vernon. As a young child she lived with her parents in Buck Grove before moving to Denison where she received her grade school education at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School. She received her high school diploma from Denison High School in 1943.

Mary was united in marriage to Douglas D. Jacobsen in 1949 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake, Iowa. To this union, five daughters were born.

Over the years Mary worked at the Denison newspaper and Martin’s Hardware while at the same time building a loving home for her family on the farm northeast of Lake View. In recent years she enjoyed using her computer and going for walks. Her fondest memories included time spent with family and friends, especially with her children and grandchildren. Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all those close to her.

Left to mourn her passing is her husband of 59 years, Douglas of Lake View; daughters: Connie (Reg) Vogel of Wall Lake, Peggy (Werner) Glur of Springdale, AR, Kathy (Les) Carlson of Omaha, NE, Rosemary and (special friend Pat Drey) of Omaha, NE, and Jeanette (Larry) Weismantel of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren: Regina Homan, Bridget Slagter, Justin Vogel, Jason Glur, Jenny Ward, Joleen Sabatini, Rachel Rohrbeck, Laura Carlson, Eric Weismantel, Kyle Weismantel, and Whitney Weismantel; great-grandchildren: Makenzie Homan, Nicholas Homan, Carter Homan, Lincoln Slagter, Martin Slagter, Jakob Glur, Justin Glur, Mckayla Ward, Jacylyn Sabatini, and Jude Sabatini; brothers: James Vernon and Ed Vernon; sister Margaret Meidlinger; sisters-in-law: Yoshie Vernon, Mary Threase Vernon, Kathryn Erps and Mary Jacobsen, and many other family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her father Edward; mother Marie; step-mother Marie Justice Vernon; father and mother-in-law: John and Emily (Swanson) Jacobsen, sister Patty Vernon; brothers-in-law: Don Jacobsen and Harold Hawks.
