Lois J. Garlock Lois J. Garlock, age 80, of Glidden, Iowa, formerly of Early, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Iowa City. Lois was born on May 4, 1927, in Lake View, Iowa to George A. and Mary E. (Sauter) Venzke. During her youthful years, she helped her father with the farming. On July 27, 1946, Lois was united in marriage to Robert Garlock. They lived in Sac City until 1954, and then moved to Sioux City, where Robert was a U.S.D.A. Inspector for the Swift Turkey Plant. In 1965, Robert’s work took them to Glidden where he was an inspector for the Quality Egg Plant. After Robert’s death in 2004, Lois moved to Stanwood, Iowa to live with her daughter Jean and family until October 1, 2007, when her health forced her to move to the Mechanicsville Nursing & Rehab Center. She became known as the lady with the pink hat to the residents and nurses in the care center. Lois was a loving wife and devoted mother who cherished her daughters and grandchildren. Her kind and caring ways will be deeply missed. Lois is survived by her daughters: Jean Hoag and husband Kevin of Stanwood, IA, and Judy Malebear of Minneapolis, MN; eight grandchildren: Terry (Anne) Totemeier of Simsbury, CT, Will Malebear of Minneapolis, MN, John (Pam) Betts, III of Eagle Grove, IA, Molly Betts of Des Moines, IA, Joe (Angie) Betts of Pilot Mound, IA, James Betts and fiancée Jessica Massey of Stanwood, IA, Genea Hoss of Bigfork, MN, and Kerri (Chantry) Henn of Tipton, IA; seven great-grandchildren: John Betts IV, Savannah Betts, Serenity Betts, Melody Betts, Xandin Betts, Aleeshia Henn and Kevin Henn. Other survivors include her sister Shirley (Richard) Hare of Ida Grove, IA; brother Wayne Venzke of Clear Lake, IA; sister-in-law Mathilda Garlock of Sac City; and very special friend John Betts, Jr. of Boone, Iowa. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; and sister Helen Johnson and her husband Charles. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 26th at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City with Pastor Pat Summers officiating. Burial will be at the Early Union Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home in Sac City. |
