Kermit M. Reiter
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 19th, at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake with Rev. Roger Carlisle officiating. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home in Wall Lake. Kermit was born on April 30, 1933, near Breda, Iowa, the son of Jesse and Gertie (Freese) Reiter. He was baptized at Wheatland Presbyterian Church in Breda and confirmed in 1947 at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake, where he remained a lifetime member. On July 19, 1950, Kermit was inducted into the U. S. Army, serving during the Korea Conflict. Sergeant Kermit Reiter was awarded the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, and Over/Seas Service Bar on completion of duties, July 27, 1953. Kermit was united in marriage to Donna R. Eaton on December 1, 1953, at Peace Lutheran Church. He was involved in the operation of Reiter Feed Company of Wall Lake and Lake View with his father and two brothers that began in 1942 and continued until his retirement in 1996. Kermit enjoyed wood crafting, hunting and fishing, watching birds and squirrels from his window at home, bowling and especially working on old cars. He was past commander of the Wall Lake American Legion and member of the Wall Lake Fire Department. Kermit was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and valued friend to many. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Donna Reiter of Wall Lake; two sons: Rick Reiter and wife Tina and Jeff Reiter and wife Melody both of Wall Lake; two daughters: Cindy Dersien and husband Dave of Bourbonnais, Illinois, and Tammy Myers and husband Tom of Huron, South Dakota; ten grandchildren; one step grandson; and four great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his brother Jeryl Reiter and wife Eva of Wall Lake; sister-in-law Margaret Reiter of Wall Lake; brother-in-law Bob Leitz of Paullina; many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Harvey; sister Annabelle Leitz; and parents-in-law Lyle and Velma Eaton. |
