Kevin E. Cross

Kevin Earl Cross, 48, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Hospice House in Omaha. Kevin was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 and gallantly battled the disease for nearly three years.

Kevin was born in Carroll, Iowa on December 11, 1959, the son of Eugene Vernon and Bethel Frances Dew Cross. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Cross and his sister, Sandra Cross.

Kevin graduated from Carroll High School in Carroll and received his college degree in Business and Finance from Northwest Missouri State. He was a passionate student of the stock market.

He was active in both Trinity Church Interdenominational and Christ Community Church in Omaha and cherished his time spent with his church family and friends.

Kevin is survived by his loving and supportive mother, Beth Vanderheiden and stepfather, Richard Vanderheiden of Auburn, IA; one brother, Ken Cross and wife Maria of Lancaster, CA; two sisters: Jeanne Geiger and husband Jim of Wrightsville Beach, NC, and Jo Anne Miller of Evanston, WY; aunt and uncle, Sharon and Larry Dew of Papillion, NE; nieces and nephews: Kim Cross, Suzanne Harrell, Kelly Cross, Wesley Broers and Jodie Miller.

Kevin’s charisma, high spirit, and taste for life were the essence of his being. As he fought his battles with cancer, Kevin was a testimony to all as he daily lived and demonstrated his strong faith in God and, in turn, had a profound effect on his family and friends. Kevin touched the lives of friends and strangers alike. His ability to listen and engage in conversation was his strong suit. His loyal and loving cat, Shannon was always there for him.

Kevin’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to Kevin’s friends for their love and support. A special thank you is extended to the various medical professionals for their care and assistance.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 21, 2008, at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City, Iowa, with Pastor David Collins officiating. Burial will be at Cory Grove Cemetery in Sac City.

The family will receive friends from noon Monday until service time.

Kevin was proud to be the namesake of his uncle, jockey Earl Dew, leading rider of America in 1940.
