JoAnn Godwin

JoAnn Irene Godwin, age 72, of Lake View, Iowa, formerly of Sac City, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 26th at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City with burial at Corey Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home.

JoAnn was born on July 22, 1935, the daughter of Lawrence and Ida (Jones) Wycoff. She was born and grew up in Sac City where she attended school. JoAnn was united in marriage to David McCauley on October 30, 1954, in Storm Lake. After her marriage to David the couple lived in Des Moines. JoAnn moved back to Sac City in 1975. On April 29, 1985, she was married to Melvin Godwin in Springfield, Missouri. The last seven years of her life she lived in Lake View. A very special couple, Barb and Larry Bundt, lived next door and became very close to JoAnn, helping and caring for her, for which she was very thankful. She was a member of the Wall Lake Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W.

JoAnn enjoyed dancing, playing cards, cooking, especially making chicken noodle soup, baking, and going out to eat at Tjaden’s Restaurant in Lake View. She also liked to watch birds and loved flowers.

JoAnn will be remembered as a very caring and loving mother, grandmother, and foster-mother (taking in several foster children through the years). She cherished her grandchildren and loved them dearly.

Survivors include her children: Dana Penn and wife Ruth of Douglas, WY; Wayne McCauley and wife Tina of Becker, MN; and Shaunna Fertig of Des Moines; seven grandchildren: Kayla Johnson, Trevor McCauley, Justin, Samantha and Charrise Fertig, and Andrea and Jarod Lockner; numerous great-grandchildren; three sisters: Lois (Cliff) Weisenborn, Laverne Staley, and Lavonne Richardson all of Sac City; and extended family members.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Melvin Godwin; daughter Jolene Lockner; four brothers: Lawrence Jr., Charles, Robert, and Lester Wycoff.
