Harlan G. Stout

Harlan Gene Stout, age 74, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at his home in Sac City.

There will be a visitation in his honor from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, September 20th at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. There are no memorial services scheduled.

Harlan was born on December 28, 1933, in Spencer, Iowa, the son of Preston C. and Louise (Klindt) Stout. Following graduation from Sac City High School in 1952, Harlan began his lifetime military career by enlisting in the United States Army for two years. While in the Army he served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Sac City and worked for the Sac County Engineer’s Office for about nine years. He continued serving his country, enlisting in the United States Air Force, serving a tour in the Vietnam War. On October 24, 1967, Harlan was honorably discharged from the Air Force. He continued his career in the Army Reserves and was also a civil service employee for the Army at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, earning the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Grade 3 upon his retirement, June 8, 1993.

He was a member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion and V.F.W. in Sac City. He enjoyed spending time at the Legion Hall visiting with friends, liked to play with his neighbor’s cat, Buddy, and was an avid professional wrestling fan. He loved keeping in contact with his service buddies and will be remembered as a bit of a prankster.

Harlan is survived by his daughter Susan King and husband Aaron of Washington D.C. and their family, Caitlin and Caden; daughter Diane Muhlbauer and husband Augie of Lytton and their family, Logan, Lexy, and Hunter; and son Rex Stout of Bode, Iowa and his sons, Sage and Kale. Other survivors include his former spouse Caryl Higgins of Sac City; sisters-in-law Shirley Stout and Joan Stout both of Sac City; many nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Preston H. Stout and sister Elnora Streed.
