Fern M. Schramm, 82, of Odebolt, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2008, at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 6th, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt with Reverend DeeAnn Klapp officiating.  Burial will be at the Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

The daughter of John and Daisy (Venzke) Sauter, Fern was born on a farm northeast of Odebolt, in Sac County, on February 27, 1926.  She was baptized July 3, 1927, in the Odebolt United Methodist Church where she remained a lifetime member.  Fern attended Clinton Country School through eighth grade.

On February 16, 1954, Fern was united in marriage to Albert W. Schramm.  He passed away on August 29, 1987.

Being a farmer’s wife, Fern helped Albert on the farm.  They farmed for 26 years northeast of Odebolt.  Fern loved the outdoors, gardening, raising roses, and traveling.  She also loved to do hand work: quilting, embroidering on pillowcases and quilts, and crocheting Afghans.  

In 1979 they moved to Wall Lake where she lived for 25 years and in 2004 moved into an apartment in Odebolt.  Due to failing health, Fern moved to the Odebolt Nursing & Rehab Center in August of 2007.

She loved spending time with her great nieces and nephews Joann, Jeanette, Jeff and Jennifer and especially her great great-nephew Jayston, going out on “drives” and seeing the changing of the seasons and how the crops were progressing.

Fern was a member of the Ruth Circle, served on Missions and the Communion Committee, and sang in the choir for many years.  She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 262 of Wall Lake.

Left to cherish her memory is her niece Diane and husband Thomas Paulson of Odebolt; great-nieces: Joann and husband Ryan Baumert of Omaha; Jeanette and husband Jeff Wulf of Odebolt; and Jennifer Paulson of Sioux City; great-nephew Jeffrey Paulson of Sioux City; and great great-nephew Jayston Paulson of Sioux City.  Other survivors include her sister Florence and husband Fred Schultz and sister-in-law Alice Schramm all of Odebolt; and many other great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents John and Daisy Sauter; husband Albert; sister Esther Sauter; and brother-in-law Fred Schramm.
