Ethel M. Snyder
Mass of the Christian burial will be held on Monday, June 2nd at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation is at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday with a Rosary at 6:00 and Vigil service at 7:30. Ethel was born on September 12, 1917, in Breda, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Schroeder) Determan. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda, where she graduated from St. Bernard’s Catholic School. On September 6, 1937, Ethel was united in marriage to Norbert M. Snyder at St. Bernard’s. This union was blessed with eight children: Karen, Leon, Jolene, Allan, Gary, Dennis, Linda and Carmen. They made their home in the Wall Lake area. Ethel was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She provided a loving and comfortable home for her family with her great cooking, making homemade bread (and lots of it), sewing, quilting, and various craft projects. Ethel enjoyed music, playing piano and singing. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake where she served as an organist for 42 years and held several offices. Ethel was a cook and dietician at Twilight Acres Nursing home for 22 years. Ethel was very proud of her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She cherished all her family and treasured their visits. Survivors include her children: Karen Wettengel of Council Bluffs; Leon (Janice) Snyder of Wall Lake; Jolene (Leon) Brotherson of Avoca; Gary Snyder of Wall Lake; Linda (Alvin) Greve of Vail; and Carmen (Joe) Cogan of Omaha; daughters-in-law: Corrine Snyder of Davis, Oklahoma and Rosa Snyder of Clive, Iowa; 40 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. Other survivors include her brother-in-law Urban (Delores) Snyder; sisters-in-law: Mona Determan, Rose Snyder, Sr. Jocelyn Snyder, Dolora Snyder, and Lois (Merlin) Thelen; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband Norbert M. Snyder; two sons: Allan and Dennis; grandson Craig W. Greve; son-in-law Paul Wettengel; sister Jaceline Buelt; five brothers: Richard, Orville, Wilfred, Cletus, and Wayne Determan; and in-laws: Irwin and Marie Stork and Rudell and Angeline Snyder. |
