Eleanor V. Galbreath
Eleanor Viola Galbreath, age 99, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2008, (just three days short of her 100th birthday), at her home in Lake View.
Eleanor was born on the Thompson Farm, three miles east of Lake View on Hwy 71, on Valentines Day, February 14, 1908, to James Welsh and Nora Irene (Orton) Welsh. They lived on farms east and west of Lake View, moving to Lake View in 1918. Eleanor attended country schools south of Ulmer and west of Lake View and graduated from Lake View High School in 1927. She completed her education with two years at Mankato Business College, Mankato, Minnesota.
On June 28, 1961, Eleanor was united in marriage to Johnnie G. Galbreath at the Methodist Church in Lake View where she was baptized at the age of 12, and remained a lifetime member. She was active in her church, teaching Sunday School for 25 years, and active in her community as a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #18 of Sac City and the Rebecca Lodge.
She was a devoted and loving wife, sister, aunt and friend. With her caring nature, she helped many friends when in need, and as a floral designer, made many beautiful arrangements for local celebrations and special events. Her hobbies included working in her garden, tending her flowers, and making crafts to share with others.
Survivors include her husband, Johnnie of Lake View; and three nieces: Phyllis “Dolly” Welsh Sanders of Denver, Colorado; Jacquelyn June Welsh Wuth of Arvada, Colorado; and Nancy Gwendolyn Welsh Branan of Villisca, Iowa; and extended family members.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nora Welsh, and her brother Clarence James Welsh.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 14th at Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View with Reverend Mary Shultz officiating. Burial will be at the Ferguson Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home in Lake View.
