Donovan L. Determann, age 81, of Lake View, Iowa, formerly of Odebolt, passed away Friday, March 7, 2008, at his residence in Lake View.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 11th, at the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt with burial in the Early Union Cemetery, Early, Iowa. The Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, March 10th at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Donovan was born on June 7, 1926, on the farm near Early, Sac County, Iowa, the son of Vincent C. and Lucile K. (Luft) Determann. He attended country school and Odebolt High School. On November 20, 1946, Donovan was united in marriage to Dorothy L. Schwanz at the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. They were the parents of three daughters who survive them: Sandra and husband David Anderson of Boone; Sharyl and husband Tom Powers of Jefferson; and Donna and husband Dave Lake of Urbandale.

Donovan farmed near Odebolt for many years until moving into Odebolt in 1976. He always enjoyed working with Belgian draft horses. He continued to help several farmers in the area and worked for Krusenstjerna Implement in Odebolt until their closing. Donovan was a member of the Odebolt Fair Board and served as Chairman for several years. He was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as Elder, Trustee, and head usher.

Spending time with his family and friends was always very important to him. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He treasured the time spent with his daughters and their families. He dearly loved his five grandchildren: Kristin Anderson, Trent Powers, Trista Powers, Tina (Doug) McHone, and Toni Lake; and his three great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Seth, and Ellie. He is also survived by his sister Mary Ann Tischer of Fonda; three brothers: Glennis and wife Janice Determann of Wall Lake, Keith and wife Fran Determann of Anthon, and Darrell and wife Billie Determann of Eagle Grove; two sisters-in-law: Ruby Determann of Early and Darlene Garrels of Wall Lake; brother-in-law Reginald (Hazel) Wilcox of Normal, Illinois; and Dorothy’s family: Paul and Marie Schwanz of Denison, Wilbert and Lila Schwanz of Alta, and Marie Schwanz of Schleswig; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

Donovan was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy on December 29, 1993; sister Phyllis Wilcox, and four brothers: Richard, Kenneth, Melvin and Vincent J. Determann.
