Catherine Josephine Borecky was born near Sac City in Douglas Township, Sac County, Iowa, to Jacob and Annie (Hinaus) Borecky, on July 26, 1916. She received her education through the eighth grade in country school. She then went to work in various homes, doing housework, caring for new babies and also elderly people, until her marriage to Robert G. Armstrong, January 4, 1939. Two children were born to this union: Harold Lynn and Judith Ann. They made their home on the Jones farm in Cedar Township for 28 years. In 1967 they moved to an acreage they had purchased near Early.

Robert upholstered and repaired furniture for others, and Catherine enjoyed helping him.

Catherine seemed to have a green thumb when it came to planting trees and flowers. She and Robert planted many trees through the years, some of which she had grown from seed as a hobby, such as evergreen, cherry, plum, peach, apple, some chokecherry and grape vines. They produced lots of fruit, which they enjoyed and shared with others. Catherine also loved flowers and grew many African Violets from seed into blooming plants. She worked on many crafts as a pastime, and sold or gave away many of her plants and crafts to others. She provided flowers for Ken-A-Bob in Storm Lake for many years. Catherine never new a stranger, she could visit with anyone and become a friend. In later years, when she no longer was able to drive and go visit people, she enjoyed writing to her family and friends to keep in touch.

She leaves to mourn her children: Harold Armstrong and wife Audrey of Canaan, New Hampshire; and Judith Williams and husband Larry of Lytton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Nellie Borecky of Wall Lake; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert on November 13, 1999; brothers Joseph and Frank Borecky; and sister Cora McKeen and husband Merton; two nieces and two nephews.
