Arnim “Bud” O’Tool
Arnim Francis O’Tool was born on February 24, 1926, in Carroll County, Iowa near Breda, the son of William and Coletta (Schelle) O'Tool, and was baptized on February 25, 1926. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school and Auburn High School. On September 5, 1950, he was the first Carroll County resident to be drafted into the U.S. Army, to serve in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on September 5, 1952. On June 22, 1953, Bud was united in marriage to, Dorothy Blessington in Carroll, Iowa. To this union two sons, Rick and Dale, were born. The family lived in Odebolt where Bud worked as a carpenter and built the family home. He was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church He was employed at the Lake View lumber yard Great Plains lumber yard in Odebolt and later worked for Payless Cashways in Early. He worked in the lumber business for over 20 years, retiring in 1989. That same year Bud and Dorothy became co-managers for the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt. In his spare time Bud loved to work in his shop and do woodworking and he will always be remembered for his ability to share a joke with friends and co-workers. He supported and helped organize the EMT/ambulance program in Odebolt and was always proud to be a citizen of Odebolt. Spending time with family and family vacations were wonderful memories for him. Left to cherish Bud’s memory are his wife, Dorothy; his sons, Rick O’Tool of Sioux City and Dale O’Tool of Odebolt; two grandchildren, Jason O’Tool and Dana Brummond and her husband, James, all of Sioux City along with his two great grandsons, Joseph and Carson and great granddaughter, Kadence. Other survivors include his two sisters, Iva Boisen of Sac City and Darlene Gross and her husband Ralph of Omaha, NE: and his two brothers, Roger O’Tool and wife Carol of Glidden, Ia and Melvin O’Tool and wife Joyce of Boone, Ia. Preceding Bud in death were his parents, brother, Lowell and sister, Dorothy Pollman. Mass of the Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt, with Father John McGuirk, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery in Odebolt, with presentation of the flag by American Legion, Post No. 313, of Odebolt. Friends may call at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt from 4 to 8 on Tuesday, May 27 where there will be a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. |
