Alvin G. Mohr
Alvin George Mohr, age 86, of Auburn, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2008, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Alvin was born on the family farm, July 12, 1921, to John and Anna (Johnson) Mohr. He was baptized in 1921 at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Ulmer. Alvin attended country school through the eighth grade and a year of Christian Education.
On March 16, 1947, Alvin was united in marriage to Rosemarie Olerich at Peace Lutheran Church in Ulmer. To this union five children were born: Alan, Pamela, Gary, Patricia, and Lynn.
Alvin and Rose farmed for many years near Auburn. Farming was his life but his family was his love. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He always enjoyed his family, teasing the grandchildren, and visiting with friends and relatives. Alvin was always interested in people and their history. He enjoyed playing cards, working on puzzle books, and watching any sport on television, especially the Chicago Cubs.
Alvin was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in his earlier years and served as Sunday School Superintendent and held various offices. At the time of his death he was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn.
Alvin and Rose celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary last year. He is survived by his wife Rose; his children: Alan Mohr and special friend Jan Moon of Sanborn, IA; Pamela Renze and husband Steve of Carroll, IA; Patricia Rothe and husband Ronald of Denison, IA; and Lynn Mohr and wife Lisa of Auburn, IA; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Samuel (Suzie) Starnes, Jr. and their children: Blake, Jenna, and Ryle of Lytton, IA; Ben (Stephanie) Renze and their children Megan, Brian, and Madison of Lake View, IA; Tricia (Dan) Buhrfriend of Chicago, IL; Tracie (Dave) Doherty and their daughter Anna of Chicago, IL; Christina (Ben) Rich of Edmonton Alberta, Canada; Nicole (Adam) Loux of Indianola, IA; Kayla Mohr of Indianola, IA; and Ashley Mohr at home; extended family members and many friends.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Mohr; son Gary in 1955; two brothers: Fred in infancy and John Mohr; and four sisters: Frieda Mohr in infancy, Johanna Frank, Alma Frank, and Ida Bruggeman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 25th at Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn with Rev. Erland Asmus officiating. Burial will be at the Luckow Cemetery in Auburn under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home in Lake View.
