Mamie Schmidt
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 10, 2007, at the First Christian Church in Sac City with Rev. Sharla Hulsey officiating. Burial will be in the Cory Grove Cemetery in Sac City,Iowa. Friends may call at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City from 4 to 8 on Wednesday. Mamie was born March 28, 1918, on the family farm near Lake View. She was the first of 13 children born to Fay ReAllen and Cecelia (Hewitt) Vauble. She attended school in Lake View leaving after the 9th grade because of a developing hearing loss. In 1937 Mamie met Lyle Russell Schmidt at the Lake View Ballroom. They were later united in marriage on February 24, 1938. To this union six children were born, Ann, Russell, LeRoy, Gary, Jan and Mark. Mamie and Lyle were members of the First Christian Church in Sac City and former members of the Methodist Church in Nemaha. Mamie was a hardworking farm wife, devoted mother, grandmother and sister. The family lived on different farms in Sac County. They later worked for farmers, Gale Davis and Richie Davis, near Nemaha. In 1982 they moved into Sac City to retire. Her interests and hobbies included crocheting, making afghans and booties and taking care of her special dogs, Dollie and Rags. She especially enjoyed traveling with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include, two daughters and their husbands: Ann and Roger Strock and Jan and Jim Curry all of Storm Lake and four sons and their wives, Russell and Karen of Nashua, LeRoy and Charlotte of Cherokee, Gary and Mary of Rippey and Mark and Julie of Sac City. Other survivors include her 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, along with her three brothers and their wives, LeRoy “Dick” and JoAnn Vauble, Robert and Pauline Vauble, Kenneth and Beverly Vauble, all of Sac City two sisters, Betty Kraft of Estherville and Phyllis and Robert Tuttle of San Jose, CA and two brothers-in-law, Walt McClintock and Larry Peyton both of Sac City. She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband of 56 years, Lyle in 1994; three brothers, Alvin “Dean”, Ralph, and Fred; four sisters Donna Peyton, Clara Larison, Iva McClintock and Barbara Green; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vivienne and Eugene Buckingham and brothers-in-law Fred Kraft, John Green and Ben Larison. |
