Lois A. Mason
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 5th, at the United Methodist Church in Early with Reverend Carl Benge officiating. Burial will be at the Early Union Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, March 4th, at the funeral home in Sac City. Lois was born February 27, 1926, in Royal, Iowa, the daughter of Amos and Hildur (Johnson) Christensen. She was baptized April 4, 1926, and confirmed March 17, 1940 at the Royal Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She graduated from Royal High School and attended Iowa State College. She taught home economics from 1945-6 at Consolidated Independent School District of Early, Iowa. On November 3, 1946, she married Donavon Mason at Royal Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She and Donavon were the proud parents of three children: Nancy, Jon (Jack), Sue, and an exchange student, Rainer Loll of Germany. Lois lived on a farm all of her life, except for her college and teaching years. She loved showing baby beef cattle at the Clay County Fair. She was proud of her four grandparents who immigrated from Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. She and Donavon spent 59 years on their Century farm southwest of Early. For fourteen years they resided during the winter months in Palm Desert, CA. She loved sewing, cooking and traveling. She was a 50 year member of the Early United Methodist Church, a Sunday school teacher, president of United Methodist Women, and on the building committee of the Furrow Hall. Lois’s grandchildren brought her great joy. She is survived by daughter Nancy and husband Dr. Michael Davis of Carroll, IA; son Dr. Jon and wife Dr. Cherral Mason of Norfolk, VA; and daughter Sue Ann and husband Craig Malloy of Humboldt, IA. Other survivors include grandchildren: Monica Davis of Norwalk, CT, Megan Davis of Iowa City, Emily (Mason) and Peter Johnson of Norfolk, VA, Jonathan and Michelle Mason of Norfolk, VA, Jason and Alison Stead of Mesa, AZ, and Scott Stead of Humboldt, IA. Lois welcomed her first great-granddaughter’s birth Isabelle Stead in June. Other survivors include brothers Harold and Barbara Christensen and Amos and Virginia Christensen of Spencer, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Her husband Donavon and her parents preceded Lois in death. |
