Joan V. Crabb

Joan Viola Crabb (Mommoo), age 65, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Mass of the Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 5th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City with Father Larry McCarty officiating. Burial will be at Cory Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home in Sac City.

Joan Viola Harms was born May 3, 1941, in Glidden, Iowa, the daughter of Paul Leon Harms and Dorothy Fay (Toms) Harms. Her parents divorced when Joan was very young. Her mother, Dorothy, remarried Lawrence Jarvis. Together they raised Joan along with her brothers and sisters. She was baptized July 22, 1951, at the Free Methodist Church in Sac City, and then re-baptized when she became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City.

On July 30. 1962, Joan was united in marriage to Leon “Bud” Crabb at Elk Point, South Dakota. This union was blessed with three children: Sally, Tom, and Danny. After their children had grown, Joan and Bud raised their two granddaughters, Melissa and Michelle. Joan’s house was always busy and filled with the sounds of her children and grandchildren. She loved to go to their many activities in school, enjoyed camping, going to horse shows, trips to the casinos, having coffee with her friends, and playing BINGO. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who cherished every moment spent with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Bud Crabb; three children: Sally Courter, Tom (Steph) Crabb, and Danny Crabb; two granddaughters raised by Joan and Bud: Melissa (Gregg) Thomsen and Michelle (Mike) Auen; two grandsons: Brandon and Tanner Crabb; and two great-grandchildren: Dylan and Kortni Thomsen all of Sac City. Other survivors include her mother, Dorothy Jarvis of Sac City; three sisters: Ann (Virgil) Johnson of Sac City, Peggy (Don) Purdy of Des Moines, and Janet (Ed) Hutchinson of Lytton; three brothers: James (Sherry) Jarvis of Sacramento, California, and Jerry Harms and Jack Harms both of Sac City; and many extended family members including aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her father, Paul Leon Harms; stepfather, Lawrence Jarvis; and nephew, Shane Harms.
