Gary Mauer, Sr.

Gary Mauer, Sr., age 66 of Lake Crystal, Minnesota, formerly of Sac City, Iowa, died Friday, February 23, 2007, at home with his family present.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, March 2nd, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City with Rev. Vicki Fisher officiating. Burial will be at the Early Union Cemetery in Early, Iowa.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 1st at the funeral home in Sac City.

Gary was born January 6, 1941, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Alice (Slieght) and John Mauer. He graduated from Sac Community High School in 1960. While he was attending school he worked at his fathers’ gas station, Jack’s 66. On November 4, 1967, Gary married Hazel Riley at the First Christian Church in Sac City. They lived in Early, Iowa. Gary also worked at Vilas’s in Storm Lake, Payless Cashway in Early, and was the grounds keeper at Early Union Cemetery.

Gary and Hazel had three children, Gary, Jr., Tina and Michelle. They moved to Minnesota in 2004 where Gary enjoyed playing Bingo, working on jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Hazel, of Lake Crystal, Minnesota; son Gary Jr. (Debbie) of Lake City, Iowa; daughters, Tina (Tim) Goettl and Michelle Mauer of Lake Crystal, Minnesota; six grandchildren; and a great granddaughter. Other survivors include his sister, Nancy (Al) Larson of Johnston, Iowa; aunt Ruby Nelson of Sac City; and his mother-in-law Donna Riley of De Soto, Kansas; four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a nephew.
