Florence M. Herrig
Florence Marie Mandernach, the daughter of Albert and Lena (Hoefling) Mandernach, was born on July 30, 1913, on the family farm, in Clinton Township, northeast of Odebolt, Iowa. She was baptized on March 22, 1914, by Rev. D. E. Basma and later confirmed on September 12, 1926, by Rev. Jacob Elner at the Salem Reformed Church which was located one half mile west of her home. This church was closed in later years. After her marriage she became a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake, Iowa. Florence received her education by attending country school in Clinton Township through the 8th grade. She then went on to attend Odebolt Public School and graduated from there in 1931. Florence remained at home on the farm with her parents until she was married there on October 11, 1934, to Albert Paul Herrig. The couple made their home on a farm 3 miles east and 1 mile south of Odebolt. To this union four sons were born, Douglas Albert on April 22, 1937, Darrell William on July 12, 1939, Dennis Dew on February 6, 1941, and Doyle Glenn on March 14, 1947. Following the death of her husband, Florence continued to live on the farm with her son Dennis, until moving to Twilight Acres in Wall Lake. Florence enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. She also loved music, dancing, watching Lawrence Welk on TV, along with playing the piano and organ. Other interests included crocheting, embroidering and doing family genealogy. Those left to mourn her passing included her sons, Darrell and his wife Mary Jo of Oshkosh, WI and Dennis of Odebolt; daughter-in-law Deborah Herrig of Sprit Lake. Five grandchildren: Daniel Herrig of Grand Forks, N.D. Judson Herrig, of Elko, MN. Jodi Mancuso of Overland Park KS, Dana and Trent Gilman of Winneconne, WI and Andrea Easter of Spirt, Lake, IA. Five Great Grandchildren: Colton Wollesen, Anthony Mancuso, Mallory Mancuso, Jacob Gilman and Abigail Gilman. Her sister-in-law, Becky Mandernach of Odebolt also survives her along with numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert in 1959: two sons, Douglas and Doyle: and sister and brothers; Mildred and Harry Iversen, Howard and Louise Mandernach, Glenn Mandernach, and Floyd and Dorothy Mandernach. She was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harvey and Marie Herrig, Verona and Tom Ferris, Roy and Lucille Herrig, and William Herrig. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake with Rev. Roger Carlisle officiating, and burial in the Wall Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake from 4 to 7 on Monday. |
