Clyde E. Marple

Clyde E. Marple, age 88, of Sac City, formerly of Nemaha, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2007, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 15th, at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha.  Burial will be at Oakland Cemtery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 14th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Clyde Emery Marple was born on October 12, 1918, in Buena Vista County, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Ethel (Saunders) Marple. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Christian Church in Sac City and attended Douglas Township Country School. 

On December 16, 1942, Clyde was united in marriage to Audrey Richardson at the United Methodist Church in Sac City.  Two children were born to this union, Dennis and Debra.  They made their home near Nemaha where Clyde farmed.  He took special care of his livestock, including cattle, hogs, and horses.  He loved spending time with his family and the farm life.  He enjoyed fishing, traveling, especially on bus tours and trips to Europe, and fondly remembered his fishing trip to Canada with Reverend Schiltz, Reverend Petersen, and others.  He was a 4-H leader when his children were younger, served as a trustee for Delaware Township, Sac County Extension Council Member, and was a long time member of the Farm Bureau.  Clyde served as a trustee at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha where he was a member.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey of Sac City; son Dennis Marple and wife Jan of Auburn, Alabama; daughter Debra Marple of Alexandria, Virginia; and exchange student, Cecilia Stenstrom of Lund, Sweden.  Other survivors include two grandchildren: Mary Lynne Dent and husband Dudley of Auburn, Alabama, and David Marple of Atlanta, Georgia; two great-grandchildren: Baxter and Virginia Dent of Auburn, Alabama; sister Geraldine Mullins of Washington, Missouri; and two sisters-in-law: Mavis Marple of Newell, Iowa, and Rosemary Richardson of Sac City, Iowa; many extended family members and a host of friends.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; sister Maurine Carlson Bogue; and two brothers: Claire and Kenneth Marple.
