Mearita Glass
Mearita was born March 26, 1906, in Lytton, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Patrick) Hass. She was baptized, confirmed and lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Sac City. She attended country school. After leaving school she worked in the Lake Okoboji area and was named Miss Chaplin’s Café. Mearita was united in marriage to Lloyd Glass on February 1, 1934, in Maryville, Missouri. They were not blessed with any children but Mearita had a close relationship with her many nieces and nephews. They farmed southwest of Sac City for many years before retiring to Sac City. Lloyd and Mearita loved to travel and toured Ireland, England, France, Germany, and Russia. She loved to garden and raise flowers. Mearita always brought flowers to the Sac County Fair and won many ribbons. She enjoyed attending all the home basketball games for many years. Lloyd passed away on February 1, 1994, on their 60th wedding anniversary. Mearita continued to live in her home on south 10th street, later moving to Oak Terrace Estates, and into Park View Care Center in 1999. She celebrated her 100th birthday on March 26th. Mearita was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Cloyd, Fred and Dale Hass; and two sisters: Thelma Stevens and Mabel Dew. A sister-in-law, Eileen Hass of Sac City; and 15 nieces and nephews survive her. |
