Marjory Gronemeyer
Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt on Monday, January 30th, with a rosary at 6:30 and vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Marjory Zane Gronemeyer, age 78, of Odebolt, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2006, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa. Marge was born in Auburn, Iowa, on August 6, 1927, the daughter of William Floyd Belt and Ruby Lucille (Hogge) Belt. She grew up in the Lake View and Auburn area, graduating from Auburn High School in 1944. She completed her education in 1947, graduating from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She taught in Phoenix, AZ, and at Westlake Girls Academy in Hollywood, CA, before returning home to get married. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith in Wall Lake in 1949 and on December 27, 1949, was united in marriage to Paul Dale Gronemeyer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburn. They were blessed with three children: Steven Dale, John Todd, and Sue Zane. She continued her teaching career in Schaller and Odebolt and was the first teacher at Odebolt to teach during her pregnancy. She later taught at Lake View-Auburn, retiring in June of 1982. Her teaching career spanned 27 2/3 years. She did substitute teaching for Wall Lake View Auburn for ten years after retirement. She was known as the “Campbell Soup Label Lady” for the WLVA Schools. Marge was an active member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt and served on the Bishop’s Commission on Women, St. Martin’s Ladies Guild, and Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. Marge’s first thoughts were always for others and her greatest joy was giving of herself. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, writing poetic tributes, fishing, baking, playing bridge, recycling, stamp collecting, collecting Hallmark pins, and doing volunteer work. Marge was a member of various social clubs, Delta Kappa Gamma (teacher sorority), and the American Legion Auxiliary. Through her club memberships and hobbies, Marge gained many friends with whom she established lasting relationships. Survivors include her husband P. Dale; her son, Steve Gronemeyer and his wife Mary of O’Fallon, MO, and their children, Melody and husband Wes Moore, and Benjamin and Gabriel Gronemeyer; her son, John Todd Gronemeyer of Jewell, IA; her daughter, Sue Beers and her husband Richard of Jewell, IA, and their children Paul Beers and wife Shelley and Callie Zane Beers; and three great-grandchildren: Trevor, Austin, and Jaiden. Other survivors include her sister-in-law, Marion Ries of Denison, IA; two brothers-in-law: Tom Gronemeyer and wife Dolores of Gowrie, IA, and Donald Gronemeyer of Odebolt, IA; many extended family members and a host of friends, including their four foreign exchange students: Martine, Celso, Otavio, and Mala. Marge was preceded in death by her father, William Floyd Belt and stepmother, Ethel Belt; her mother, Ruby Coyne and stepfather, Roy Coyne; mother-in-law, Irene Gronemeyer; father-in-law and step mother-in-law, Paul “P.J.” and Leota Gronemeyer; three brothers-in-law: Lyle Gronemeyer, John Hunt, and Donald Ries; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Gronemeyer. |
