George C. Smith

Memorial services for George C. Smith will be held on Saturday, January 7th, 3:00 p.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Father Larry McCarty will officiate. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary said at the Church at 2:15, prior to the Memorial Mass. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa, at a later date. Their will be no visitation.

George Carl Smith, age 70, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2006, at the Loring Hospital in Sac City.

George was born on December 18, 1935 in Judith Gap, Montana, the son of Omer and Martha (Hetland) Smith. Following graduation from Harlowton High School in Harlowton, Montana, George joined the U.S. Navy and served his country during the Korean conflict.

On May 28, 1969, George was united in marriage to Kathleen “Katie” McMahan in Engelwood, Colorado. They moved to Carroll in 1970, Wall Lake in 1975, and to Sac City in 1989 where George was a propane truck driver for Lubeck’s Phillips 66.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his son, Paul Smith of Sac City; one brother and his wife, Jack and Pauline Smith of Americus, Georgia and one sister, Sara “Sally” Norman of Fairview, Montana.

George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Katie on October 26, 2005; and four brothers: Thomas, Martin, James, and Lawrence.
