Elaine was born on December 21, 1915, at home in Lake View, the daughter of Clarence C. “Dutch” and Frances Ruth (McCarter) Lille.  She was the first of five daughters born into this family. She was baptized as a baby and became of member of the First Congregational Church in Lake View in the 1930’s.  Elaine attended school at Lake View and graduated with the class of 1933.  After graduation she attended and graduated from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa.  While attending school she worked for a wealthy family on Waterbury Circle in Des Moines for her room and board.

During high school, she worked for Farmers State Bank in Lake View part-time, which was the beginning of her career in the banking world, as she went to work in August of 1939 for the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago, Illinois, from which she retired in 1978. She started as a  “sorter” of money, working her way up to secretary for the vice president of the bank.  Elaine moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and enjoyed her retirement until ill health required her to move to Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake in 2000.

She enjoyed reading and traveling.  She was not one to make a lot of friends, but enjoyed those she did and loved her family.

Elaine is survived by her family members, who she spent much time and loved dearly, three sisters: Lois Mack of Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, IA; Marian Swihart of Grand Island, NE; and Darlene Onstot and her husband Herbert W. of Lake View, IA; three nieces: Karen Kulander of Sunnyvale, CA; Denise Lake of Sac City, IA; and Heidi (Onstot) Johnson of Clive, IA; and eight nephews: Warren Mack of Minneapolis, MN; Steven Swihart of Denver, CO; Douglas Swihart of Grand Island, NE; Bruce Swihart of Grand Island, NE; Gregory Onstot of Springfield, MO; Scott Onstot of Lake View, IA; Dana Dettmann of Sac City, IA; and Marc Dettmann of Lytton, IA;  great-nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
