Darwyn H. Rodman, age 81, of Wall Lake, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, June 04, 2006, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, Iowa. Darwyn was born on January 2, 1925, at Lake View, Iowa, the son of Hurley and Bernice (Auen) Rodman. On December 5, 1937, he was baptized at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church. He lived with his parents, west of Breda and attended Carroll County Country School through the eighth grade, graduating from Wall Lake High School in 1942.

After graduating Darwyn enlisted in the U. S. Navy, serving from January 5, 1943 through December 1, 1945. He was sworn in at the Naval Reserve Center in Des Moines, Iowa; received schooling and training at Great Lakes, IL; and advanced training in California, before serving on the USS Porcupine, San Francisco, CA, and released from San Diego, CA, in December, 1945. On February 20, 1945, Darwyn was united in marriage to Wilma Harlene Pine at the home of Darwyn’s parents in Breda. They lived in San Diego, CA, for one year and then moved to a farm west of Breda where they farmed and reared their sons, Mike and Dan. His life was the farm, for 50 plus years, retiring in the late 1990’s, but his love was his family. A devoted husband and father, Darwyn followed his son’s activities in school and looked forward with great anticipation to the addition of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild to his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and wood working projects.

Darwyn was an active member of the Wheatland Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder, Deacon, Trustee, and on the Cemetery Board. Darwyn and Harlene moved into Wall Lake on June 23, 2005.
