Clayton K. Ellwanger
Visitation is Friday, January 27th, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. Clayton Kenneth Ellwanger, age 84, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2006, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Clayton was born on March 30, 1921, the son of Charles A. and Grace (Waddicor) Ellwanger. He was baptized at the Galbraith Methodist Church and grew up on the family farm, rural Sac City, where he attended country school through the eighth grade. Clayton was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps on September 7, 1942, and served his country during WWII, earning the rank of Sergeant, Field Cook. He was honorably discharged on October 16, 1945. On September 26, 1945, Clayton was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Shipley in Reno, Nevada. They farmed north of Sac City where they raised their two sons: Dennis and Dwight. He was quite the handy man, enjoying woodworking, welding, and building projects. He had a natural love of the outdoors, fishing, bird watching, gardening, and taking care of his flowers. He even enjoyed bringing the outdoors in with all his indoor plants. He was a member of the Newell American Legion Post No. 193 and the Sac City V.F.W. Post No. 590. His family will cherish his memory as a loving, faithful husband and father with a desire to help others. Survivors include his loving wife Evelyn of sixty years; his sons: Dennis Kenneth Ellwanger and his wife Jean of Sac City, and Dwight Douglas Ellwanger also of Sac City; two grandchildren: Nicole Renae Ellwanger Brown and her husband Sean of Dallas, Texas, and Jonathan David Ellwanger of Sioux City, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Byron and Arthur Ellwanger; two sisters: Jesse Chisholm and Phyllis Carnine; and an infant son David Lee. |
