Bernadine Jettre
Bernadine Sophia Minnie Jettre, age 86,of Lytton, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2006, at the Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge. Bernadine Schwartz was born January 13, 1920, in Cedar Township, Sac County, Iowa, the youngest daughter of Ludwig and Maria (Hillmer) Schwartz. She received Holy Baptism on January 23, 1921, by Pastor R.C. Dahlke. In the Rite of Confirmation, she confessed Jesus Christ as her only Lord and Savior, on March 20, 1932, by Pastor H.C. Gold at the Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton. Bernadine received her education at the Lytton Consolidated School, graduating with the class of 1937. She worked for farmers as a hired girl and in WW II she helped run the baler during haying time and also helped with the corn harvest. In 1951, she was united in marriage to Orville L. Jettre at the Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton. After the death of her husband, she worked as Secretary and Treasure for the Lytton Telephone Company. Later, she began working as an egg candler, working in Sac City and Lytton for 33 years, retiring in 1986. Bernadine was a lifetime member of Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church, President of the Dorcas Circle for many years until it dissolved and then she joined Ruth Circle, was very involved in do days, piecing many quilts at home to take to the church to finish. She was also the head organizer of the Senior Citizen Dinners for five years at our church. She enjoyed her Iris garden and sharing them with her neighbors. Bernadine is survived by her son, Orville H. Jettre and sister, Lilly Helmbrecht both of Lytton, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville; two brothers, Fred and his wife Christine Schwartz and an infant, four sisters, Tillie and husband Heiko Everts, Clara Schwartz, Mary and husband Theodore Smidt, and Emma Schwartz; and two brothers-in-law, Alvin Diersen and Walter Helmbrecht. |
