Bilda Corn, age 93, of Wall Lake, Iowa, formerly of Carnarvon, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2006, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.

Bilda (Janssen) Corn was born on June 5, 1912, in Sac County, the daughter of Reiner and Gertie (Huisenga) Janssen. She was baptized in Wall Lake and confirmed in Carnarvon where she remained an active member of the Immanuel Presbyterian Church. She grew up on a farm south of Carnarvon and attended country school through the eighth grade.

She was united in marriage to Bill Tiefenthaler. They made their home in Carnarvon. This union was blessed with a daughter, Myra Jean. After Bill’s death she married Casey Corn at Immanuel Presbyterian in Carnarvon.

Bilda’s memory will be cherished by many as a fun loving, people person. She loved her work at the Lakewood Ballroom, where she met and made many friends. She enjoyed cooking, baking, playing cards, gardening, her flowers, and writing as the correspondent for the Carnarvon News in many local papers. She had fond memories of the time that the “Iowa Boy” wrote an article in the Des Moines Register about her as the “Carnarvon Correspondent.” In her earlier years she did house cleaning for other people, worked at the popcorn company, and local restaurants.

Survivors include her step-son, Ed Corn of Colorado; step-daughter Marie Whiting and her husband Merlin of Mapleton, IA; her sister-in-law, Mabel Janssen of Twilight Acres Nursing Home; her nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Bilda was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Myra Jean; her two husbands: Bill Tiefenthaler and Casey Corn; and brother Jake Janssen.
