Robert Brown

Funeral services for Bob Brown will be held Saturday, February 19th, 2:00 pm, at the United Methodist Church in Sac City with Rev. Dean McPherson officiating. Rick and Evan Hecht will sing a duet with Colleen Hecht, organist. Honorary pallbearers are the following: Heidi Jo Sprouse, Matthew Brown, Christopher Brown, Lindsey Sturm, Stephanie Brown, Madison Sturm, and Steve Sprouse. Active pallbearers include: Steve Hansen, Ron Vogt, Jim Brown, Jason Vogt, Danny McFarland, and Shane McFarland. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 pm, Friday, Feb. 18th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Robert Charles Brown, age 74, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at Loring Care Center in Sac City.

Robert was born on May 31, 1930, on the farm in Odebolt, IA, the son of Ewald and Esther (Hokanson) Brown. He was baptized on September 20, 1931, rural Odebolt. He grew up on the farm and attended country school and Odebolt High School through the ninth grade.

On July 27, 1952, Robert was united in marriage to Thelma L. Francis at the First Methodist Church in Sac City. They were blessed with two children: Robert L. and Charlene.

Bob was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office, delivering mail in Nemaha, Lytton, Duncombe, and Lehigh areas over the years retiring November 30, 1993. He liked to stay busy and enjoyed yard work, was a real estate salesman, and worked as a custodian at Iowa State Bank retiring in 1985. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sac City.

Bob cherished the time he could spend with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, camping with the grandchildren, and daily lunch with his son.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-two years, Thelma L. Brown of Sac City; his son Robert L. Brown and wife Sheryl of Glidden, IA; daughter Charlene Sturm and husband William of Glidden, IA; six grandchildren: Heidi Jo (Steve) Sprouse of Rocky Ford, CO, Christopher Brown of Glidden, IA, Stephanie Brown of Cedar Falls, IA, Matthew Brown of Emmetsburg, IA, and Lindsey Sturm and Madison Sturm of Glidden, IA; two great grandchildren: Hannah and Caleb Sprouse of Rocky Ford, CO; sister: Dorothy (Harold) McFarland of Storm Lake, IA; sisters-in-law: Marjorie Brown and friend Ron of Denison, IA, and Caroline Bruyn of Sac City; IA; brother-in-law Lloyd Lamaak and friend Pearl of Pueblo, CO; and many extended family members.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ewald and Esther Brown; parents-in-law Bert and Celia Francis; brothers: Edward “Bud” and Donald Brown; sister Elaine Lamaak; brothers-in-law: Elwood Francis, Charles Niles, Wesley Kuester, and Danny Bruyn; sister-in-law Gwendolyn Niles; and nephews: Dennis and Ricky McFarland and Darwin and Duane Niles.
