Lester W. Rohde

Funeral services for Lester Rohde will be held Thursday, January 20th, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake with Father John McGuirk presiding and Sue Mein, organist. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation if from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake with family present from 6:00-8:00. A vigil service will be held at 7:30.

Lester W. Rohde, age 78, of Wall Lake, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at St. Anthony’s Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa.

Lester was born on May 18, 1926, in Crawford County, the son of William A. and Jennie (Schoneboom) Rohde. He attended schools in Herring and Wall Lake, and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

He was united in marriage to Wynona Bruns on April 20, 1954, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake. To this union three children were born: Renee, Ric and Joni. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather who treasured his family. He loved visiting with family and friends, and enjoyed playing cards, fishing trips and golf.

He operated Rohde Transfer from 1955 to 1976, at which time the family moved to Ashland, Missouri where they purchased a liquor store. In recent years he worked for Harry Hayes in Ida Grove as a commodity broker, and Boyer Valley where he operated the city scale both spring and fall. He will be greatly missed as “General Manager” and “Chief Parking Attendant” at Kidman Tree Farm.

Survivors include his children: Renee A. Kidman and her husband Mike of Polk City, IA, Ric Rohde and his wife Cindy of North Port, Florida, and Joni M. Snyder of West Des Moines, IA; four grandchildren: Seth and Evan Rohde and Alexander and Jacob Snyder; three brothers: Marvin Rohde and his wife Helen of Lake View, IA, Wilbert Rohde and his wife Cecilia of Wall Lake, IA, Duane Rohde and his wife Ardell of Lake View, IA; two sisters: Bernita Carstensen and her husband Wally of Odebolt, IA, and Dorothy Subbert of Carroll, IA; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Wynona December 14, 2003; and sisters, Orlean Dozark and Roma Jean Blum.
