Leona H. Hinrichs, age 86, of Lytton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2005, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.  Leona was born on September 12, 1918, in Palmer, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Rose (Loots) Behrens.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Palmer and graduated from Palmer High School in 1936.

She met Ed Hinrichs at Luther League gatherings in neighboring towns and got acquainted there.  They were united in marriage on February 8, 1939, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Palmer. To this union three children were born: Everett, Donna, and Colleen. After their marriage they lived northeast of Lytton from 1940-1946 and then moved to their present farm south of Lytton. Leona enjoyed the farm life and helping Ed.  She also enjoyed being with her family, music, gardening, playing cards, sewing, crocheting, baking, Bible study, and reading.  She was an active member of Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church and held numerous offices in WELCA and Ruth Circle, enjoyed the fellowship and sewing for Do Days, teaching Sunday school, and singing in choir.

Leona was a loving and caring wife and devoted mother whose first priority was making a warm and comfortable home for her family, whom she treasured.  She loved having the grandchildren come visit and following their activities.  Her family doctor found her to be an example and role model, stating “From your very young years, you have been strong and courageous and admired as a lady of strength, resilience and peace.”

Survivors include her son Everett and wife Joane Hinrichs of Manson, IA, and two daughters: Donna and husband Dr. Gene Michel of Cherokee, IA, and Colleen and husband LaVerne Arndt of Sac City.  Other survivors include her six grandchildren: Wayne (Bobbi) Hinrichs, Steve (Charlene) Hinrichs, Doug Michel, Troy Arndt, Robin (Mark) Tropansky, and Josh (Laurie) Hinrichs; 11 great-grandchildren: Parker, Devin, Tate, Sawyer, Amanda, Whitney, Jeremy, Josh, Bryce, Davis, and Anna; two brothers: Clarence Behrens and wife Amy of Arden, NC, and Ronald Behrens of Palmer; sister-in-law Olga Peterson of Pomeroy; extended family members and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ed on July 9, 2005; brother Alvin Behrens; an infant sister; and sister-in-law Mae Behrens.
