Bernetah G. Calhoun

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Early, Iowa, with Reverend Karl Schiltz officiating. Burial will be in the Early Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 22, 2005, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City, Iowa. Memorials may be designated to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Brookfield, MO, or the Early United Methodist Church in Early, IA.

Bernetah G. Calhoun, 85, of Brookfield, Missouri, and formerly of Early, Iowa died on Friday, March 18, 2005, at the Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield.

Bernetah Grace Fawcett was born November 3, 1919, in Auburn, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Loretta Fawcett. She attended school in Early, Iowa, graduating from the Early High School in 1937.

On July 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to L.P. “Bus” Calhoun who preceded her in death in February of 1985. To this union two children were born, Dennis and Darla. The couple owned and operated a restaurant in Early in the 1950’s and 60’s and later moved to Texas. Recent years have been spent in Brookfield to be closer to her son.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Calhoun and his wife Cheryl of Brookfield, MO, and one daughter, Darla Schroeder and her husband John of Hemet, CA. Other survivors include her seven grandchildren: Mark and Allison Calhoun, Michael and Denise Calhoun, Matthew and Thelma Hines, Melanie Fritz, Michelle Ameigh, Tracy Calhoun, and Paulette and Mike Holtz; and nineteen great grandchildren. Bernetah is also survived by her two sisters: Betty Ellinger and Bernette Austin; and two sisters-in-law: Mary Wilson and Dorothy Calhoun.
