Kenneth Long
Ken was born March 4, 1921, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of Harold C. and Marjorie (Cooley) Long. Ken attended country school thru the 8th grade and graduated from the Lake View High School in 1940. On December 31, 1940, he was married to Beryl J. Kirkendall in Sac City, Iowa. To this union were born seven children: Janet, Janice, Rebecca, Vicki, Steven, Andrew, & Kara. Ken lived and farmed northwest of Lake View for 63 years. He served on the A.S.C.S. office in Sac City as a community committee member from 1955 to 1995 and was a commodity inspector from 1961 to 1976 all for Wall Lake Twp. He was an active member at Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View where he was an usher, board member, and was the chairman for the Summer Carnival food stand. Ken enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching ball games, and he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Ken is survived by his wife Beryl, his five daughters: Janet Dowling of Gainesville, FL, Janice (Bob) Huisenga of Sioux City, IA, Becky Presley of Auburn, IA, Vicki (Joseph) Neppl of Wall Lake, IA, Kara (Jedd) Sherman of Walnut, IA.; son, Steven, of Humboldt, IA.; 21 Grandchildren; 22 Great-grandchildren; and a sister Bette Monroe of Mountain View, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marjorie Long; son Andrew in 1995; grandson Brian Dowling in 2003; great grandson Gable Greder in 1999, great-grandson Matthew Carstens in 1995; and a son-in-law Vern Summerfield in 1996. Funeral services are 10:30 AM Thursday March 11, 2004 at Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View with Rev. Rick Johnson officiating. Burial is in the Ferguson Cemetery in Lake View, IA. Visitation is 4-8:00 PM Wednesday at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View. |
