Jane D. Mann

Funeral services for Jane D. Mann will be Friday, January 9, 2004, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Sac City with Rev. Dean McPherson officiating. Special music is provided by Diana Waldstein, soloist, with Dee Meyer, organist. Honorary pallbearers will include: Laurie Benson, Trisha Hansen, Jennifer Kral, Alexia Schlafer, and Justin Schlafer. Pallbearers include: Jeff Wise, Mark Wise, Jim Wise, Bryan Walker, Kirby Mosbach, Erick Mann, and Josh Mann. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City.

Visitation is 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 8th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Jane D. Mann, age 89, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 5, 2004, at Buena Vista Regional Hospital in Storm Lake.

Jane was born on November 26, 1914, in Lake View, the daughter of William and Ruby (Eddy) Davenport, and was baptized at the Lake View Congregational Church. She grew up in the Lake View community, attending Lake View Grade School two years, Marshall Country School Wall Lake #7 through eighth grade, her freshman year at Lake View and graduated from Sac City High School in 1932, with Norman Training. She continued her education at Cedar Falls, Iowa State Teachers College, by taking several summer classes.

She taught country school for five years until her marriage on Memorial Day, May 29, 1938, to Vivan Mann, at her home in Lake View. To this union three daughters Joyce, Mary Lee, and Shirley, and a son Leslie, were born.

Jane was a member of the United Methodist Church and U.M.W. in Sac City.

She was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother who loved gardening, cooking and baking for her family and friends. She won lots of ribbons for her canning and baking at many fairs including the Sac County, Clay, and Iowa State Fair. She enjoyed flowers, puzzles, travel, history, and genealogy. Later she worked at Park View Care Center as a cook, retiring in 1982. Jane had a strong desire to learn, at the age of 84, she took classes at Iowa Central College.

Survivors include her children: Joyce (Lyle) Mosbach of Storm Lake, Mary Lee (Robert) Wise of Sergeant Bluff, Shirley (Merle) Alexander of Grimes, and Leslie (Kim) Mann of Alta; 12 grandchildren: Laurie Benson of Badger, IA, Kirby Mosbach of Storm Lake, Jeff Wise of W. Des Moines, Jim (Michelle) Wise of Sergeant Bluff, Mark (Tami) Wise of Urbandale, Bryan (Sarah) Walker of Des Moines, Jennifer (Kurt) Kral of Rialto, CA, Eric and Joshua Mann of Alta, Trisha (Jeremy) Hansen of Newell, Justin Schlafer of Minneapolis, MN, and Alexia Schlafer of Ames; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister Anne Willert of Sac City; sister-in-law Geraldine Boger of Lake View; extended family and many friends.

Her husband Vivan Mann; parents William and Ruby Davenport; brother William Davenport, Jr.; and son-in-law Lyle Walker, preceded her in death.
