Janice Hughes
Janice M. Schulte was born on July 16, 1908, the daughter of Charles A. and Mabel E. (Wilson) Schulte. She graduated from Sac City High School, continued her education at Rockford Girls School, and then on to Northwestern in Chicago. She finished her education at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, with a degree in music and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. On August 24, 1935, Janice and N. Webster Hughes were united in marriage in Sac City. The couple made their first home in Waterloo, later moving to Des Moines and in 1946 to Sac City. They were blessed with a son, Robert. Webster and Janice made their home in Sac City. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was a loving wife and mother. As an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sac City, she served as past president of the Presbyterian Woman’s Group, Elder, Deacon, Choir Director, and started and directed the Bell Choir, that was enjoyed by many during the holidays and on special occasions. She joined the church April 17, 1946, which made her the oldest member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City. She was also a member and past president of the BI, PEO of Sac City. Survivors include her son, Robert Hughes of Surprise, AZ; a brother, John and his wife Louise Schulte of Sac City, IA; a sister, Helen Mae Wamsley of Mesa, Arizona; brother-in-law, Bernard Hughes of Colorado Springs, CO; nine nieces and nephews; and many friends. Janice was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Webster on August 28, 1994. Funeral services for Janice will be Tuesday, April 20th, 11:00 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City with Reverend B.J. Ukena officiating. Special music by Steve Goecke, soloist, and Alishia Smock, harpist, accompanied by Charles Schulte on the organ. Honorary pallbearers include Ardys and Dr. Ralph Zolnosky, Phyllis and Graff Williams, Beth Lange, and Mary Farmer. Interment will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Friends who wish to send condolences may do so online. Visitation is Monday, April 19th, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. |
