Gerald Hanson

Gerald A. Hanson, age 79, formerly of Lytton, Iowa passed away on Sunday March 7, 2004, at the Fonda Care and Rehab Center in Fonda, Iowa.

Gerald was born on April 1, 1924, in Alta, Iowa the son of Emmett and Marcella (Anderson) Hanson.

He attended Alta Schools, graduating from the Alta High School and went on to Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, where he studied agriculture. He then went on to serve in the US Navy during WWII.

On August 3, 1952, he was united in marriage to Mary LaVon Dall. To this union four children were born, Randy, Roger, Janet and Ricky.

The couple farmed near Bradgate and Havelock before moving to Lytton. While at Lytton he continued to farm and worked at Noble Manufacturing in Sac City for a number of years.

After retiring in 1976, Gerald and Mary moved into Lytton where he served as Mayor and was on the local police department.

Gerald enjoyed camping and fishing. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of the Lytton American Legion.

Gerald is survived by his wife Mary of Rockwell City; two sons and their wives: Randy and Karen Hanson of Callender, IA, and Rodger and Linda Hanson of Sac City, IA; daughter and her husband, Janet and Jeff Klocko of Norwalk, IA; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Other survivors include his two sisters: LaVera Fleuriet of Georgetown, Texas and LaVonna Struthers of West Bend, Ia. and numerous relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Marcella Hanson; his son, Ricky in 1991; and a brother Darwin.

Funeral services for Gerald are Wednesday, March 10th, 3:30 p.m., at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City with Reverend Wayne Pfannkuch officiating, and Mary Townsend organist. Honorary pallbearers include Mike Licht and Paul Johnson. Casketbearers consists of: Jesse Hanson, Kent Wolcott, Jerrad Hanson, Ronald Struthers, Nick Nolte, and Randy Batz. Burial will be at Cedar Cemetery with full military graveside services by Hutchinson-Liechty American Legion Post 546 from Lytton, Iowa.
