Dorothy Provost

Funeral services for Dorothy Provost are Saturday, January 10, 2004, at 10:30 am, at the Presbyterian Church in Lytton, Iowa, with Reverend Wayne Pfannkuch officiating. Special music is provided by Frank Pontious, soloist, and Mary Townsend, organist. Honorary pallbearers include: Bob and Marilyn Williams, Catherine Ringgenberg, Opal Kruckenberg, Evelyn Nordin, Peggy Nordin, Carol Ross, and Ray Baily. Pallbearers will be the following: Doug Williams, Greg Williams, Chris Nordin, Bruce Williams, Roger Peters, and Laverne Arndt. Burial will be at the Cedar Cemetery at Fonda, Iowa.

Visitation is Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Dorothy Pearl Provost, age 86, of Lytton, Iowa, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at the Fonda Nursing & Rehab Center.

Dorothy Pearl Nagel was born on March 15, 1917, in Williams Township, Calhoun County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Amber (Pierce) Nagel. She attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Fonda High School in 1935.

On December 30, 1940, Dorothy and Lee Marvin Provost were united in marriage. They were blessed with a daughter Linda. They both worked for Douglas Aircraft in California and Oklahoma. In 1946 they returned to Lytton and Dorothy worked at the McVay Hospital in Lake City, and for Dr. Fred Blair and Dr. Sage in Lytton, the Lytton Telephone Company, the Woman’s Reformatory in Rockwell City, and the E.E. Lewis Dress Shop in Sac City.

Dorothy was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Lytton, and was involved in many activities. She was Sunday School Superintendent, taught Bible School, and was awarded an honorary member of the United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America in 1979, and an Outstanding Senior Presbyterian Certificate of Nomination in 1994. She was also involved with the community affairs and was awarded an Honorary FHA Chapter Mother.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Steffes and her husband Francis “Frank” of Grand Island, NE; her granddaughter Pamela (Doug) Miller and her great-grandson Mitchell Miller of Grand Island; a sister Helen Boettcher of Fonda; a brother O’Neal Nagel of Fort Wayne, IN; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lee in 1979, two brothers: Alvin and Vern; and a sister Madonna Nagel.
