Doris Bruns

Funeral services for Doris Bruns, of Sac City, is Wednesday, February 25th, 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City with Reverend Mark Selby officiating. Special music will be provided by Cheryl Gerry, soloist, along with congregational singing, accompanied by Michele Suggitt. The flower committee consists of Jane Scharn and Cheryl Gerry. Honorary pallbearers are the following: Tina Weitzel, Traci Kutz, Shawn Larson, Teri Waggoner, Tami Nordman, Stacy Talbott, and Dylan Bruns. Casket bearers include: Chad Bruns, Sonny Bruns, Scott Bruns, Mike Larson, Jeff “Tiny” Talbott, and Nick Kutz. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Sac City under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home, Sac City.

Visitation is Tuesday, February 24th, from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. Friends who wish to send condolences may do so online.

Doris Fern Bruns, age 77, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2004, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.

Doris Fern Streed was born on June 28, 1926, in Cherokee County, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Alma (Wienert) Streed. She lived in Cherokee County and as a young girl moved to the Odebolt area where she graduated from Odebolt High School.

On September 1, 1945, Doris was united in marriage to Fred Bruns in Chicago, IL. To this union three children were born: Sandra Sue, Fred T., and Steven R.

They farmed in the Sac City area from 1951-62. Doris taught school for about two years at Lake View Country School and in the country school northeast of Odebolt. She then worked at Dr. Lee’s veterinary office for seven years, and as a C.N.A. at Park View Care Center for 25 years.

Doris was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City, the Ladies Aide, and taught Sunday school for several years. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, and raising flowers but her family was always the most important to her. Doris loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she was anticipating the arrival of her two new great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Fred Bruns, Sr. of Sac City; her daughter Sandra Sue Weitzel of Sac City, IA; two sons: Fred T. Bruns and his wife Rosey of Sac City, and Steven R. Bruns of Rockwell City and his wife Cheryl of Lake City, IA; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers: George Streed of Odebolt, IA, and Ted Streed and his wife Yvonne of Perry, IA; two sisters: Gladys Albers of Cherokee, IA, and Louise Claussen and her husband Earl of Jefferson, SD; and many relatives and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Marie Cline and Alice Streed; an infant brother; son-in-law Donald Weitzel; and a great-granddaughter Samantha Weitzel.
